Victor Martinez Bodybuilding Biography
Victor Martinez Bodybuilder Mr Olympia Competitor
Víctor Martínez is the second professional bodybuilder that is born in the Dominican Republic to turn pro in bodybuilding. The first was Tony Domenench who was from Puerto Plata and he turned pro in 1995. Victor turned pro in 1997 when he won the National Physique Committee (NPC) that was held in New York and competed as a light heavyweight.Victor continued to enter competitions coming always in the top ten in highly competitive shows like the Arnold Classic where he came in 13th or the IFBB Night of Champions where he came in 8th position. Learning to compete takes time, and after coming in 9th position at the IronMan Pro Invitational he later went on to win the Win the Night of Champions in 2003.
Victor was getting better and better and his first Mr. Olympia which was in 2004, he placed 9th, and two years later in 2005 advanced to 5th place. Victor was unstoppable and kept coming back to give a better performance than the year before.
In 2006 he placed 3rd at the Mr.Olympia and he came back even stronger a year later in 2007 when he took second place to his rival Jay Cutler. The same year he also won the Arnold Classic for the first time. Two years previous Ronnie Coleman is quoted as saying that Victor Martínez would more than likely become his successor as Mr. Olympia.
Suddenly things changed for Victor when in January 2008 he damaged his knee and underwent surgery to repair the left patellar tendon that had been damaged doing lunges when warming up. The injury was serious however and the repair took time to heal so he was unable to defend his title at the Arnold Classic in 2008.
But Victor is made out of strong stuff and after being forced to stop weight training for almost a year he started training again doing rehabilitation work so that he could start training seriously again. He spent 9 months completing his rehab and started training hard-core under the guidance of his coach Jakob Panotas.
Just as strong as ever Victor returned to the Arnold Classic in 2009 and placed 2nd which was an amazing achievement considering what he had been through. He only lost by 2 points to the winner Kai Greene but by that time Victor was on a roll again and he started competing on a regular basis.
In the early part of 2010 Martínez became the co-owner of the Muscle Maker Grill, which was in Edgewater NJ. He also became the spokesperson for the whole franchise and was responsible for some effective ad campaigns. Victor made some changes that lasted until the business was sold.
Unfortunately he lost the business because he was jailed for 6 weeks for immigration violations and never competed again. Victor Martínez has 2 sons and 3 daughters, which are the most precious to him and will always come first in his life.
