Phil Heath Bodybuilding Biography
Phil Heath The Gift Bodybuilder and Mr Olympia
Phillip "The Gift" Heath born in Seattle Washington on December 18, 1979 and later went on to graduate from Rainier Beach High School. Phil started his athletic career by playing as a shooting guard, which later gave him a full scholarship to attend the University of Denver in Colorado.Phil applied himself to his studies and managed to achieve a double-major in IT and Business Administration. While at University he continued to play basketball as a shooting guard for Denver's Division I. Phil started training as a bodybuilder during his last two years at University.
In 2002 Phil decided to enter his first bodybuilding contest but it took another three years before he was able to win the overall title during the NPC (National Physique Committee) USA Championships. This is what gave him his Pro-card which enabled him to enter and win his first two IFBB bodybuilding contests.
Two years after that Phil competed again and placed fifth during the Arnold Classic. At the last minute Phil decided not to enter the Mr.Olympia in 2007 despite being qualified to enter. A determined Phil came back in 2008 to win the Iron Man show and later was placed in second place to the winner Dexter Jackson during the 2008 Arnold Classic.
The 2008 Mr. Olympia was Phil’s first competition at the Mr.Olympia and by coming in third place was recorded as first novice in the history of the Mr.Olympia competition that placed in the top five ever since Flex Wheeler did it in 1993. Phil was rated as a favourite to win the 2009 Mr. Olympia title but things went wrong as he caught a stomach virus that caused him to lose to 6 lbs of muscle. The result was that he took fifth place in the Mr.Olympia that year despite trying desperately not to look depleted.
A year later in 2010 Phil came in second place to his main rival competition Jay Cutler who won his first Mr.Olympia title. Phil managed to beat his biggest rival the following year at the Mr.Olympia 2012 by improving his rear lat spread to win his first Mr. Olympia title.
Getting to the top of his chosen sport was certainly not a coincident as Phil managed to win the 2012 as well as the 2013 Mr Olympia. Phil managed to successfully defend his title in 2013 by beating Kai Greene in what the experts to believe was a close competition as it usually is.
