Lou Ferrigno Bodybuilding Biography


Lou Ferrigno The Hulk Bodybuilder

Louis Jude "Lou" Ferrigno was born in Brooklyn New York in November 9, 1951 and his parents were Brooklyn natives of Italian decent called Victoria and Matt Ferrigno. He developed an ear infection just after he was born that lost him 80% of his hearing which was only discovered when he was 3 years old.

Lou started training when he was 13 because he was inspired by the Hercules movie with Steve reeves and he said it was his ambition to develop his body like that. He trained regularly but only started to compete after he graduated as a metal worker.

Although Lou had entered previously in other minor bodybuilding contests his first major title came in 1969 when he won the IFBB Mr. America and a few other titles before he won the IFBB Mr. Universe in 1973. A year later he tried to beat the unstoppable Arnold by entering the Mr.Olympia and came in second behind Arnold.

In the early days when Lou started bodybuilding it was not possible to make a living as a bodybuilder and he continued to work as a metal worker. His complete bodybuilding competitive history does not include many major wins despite his comeback in 1992.

Lou resigned as a metal worker when his closest friend that he used to work with cut his hand off by mistake. Lou then started full time working as a personal trainer and his most famous client was Michael Jackson who he got into shape for his world tour.

Lou also marketed home gym equipment but he became a household name acting in the CBS The Incredible Hulk series which ran for a few years and was very successful. Lou married psychotherapist Carla Green who also became a personal trainer and they had three children.

One of their children called Shanna is currently playing in Days Of Our Lives as the nursing sister. They are a close family dedicated to health and fitness although Lou is no longer acting in movies he is still promoting his exercise equipment.
